Welcome to Volunteer Macon!

Volunteer Macon encourages volunteer effort directed at Macon's serious social problems and other priority needs. To volunteer, call Volunteer Macon at 742-6677.



Important! General Do's and Don’ts for Volunteers Working in a Disaster Area

Do:
• Obey the designated Safety Person on your site • Have a driver’s license or some type of photo I.D. with you at all times. • Be current on your tetanus vaccination • Wear appropriate clothing. • Wear appropriate shoes • Bring your own work gloves • Bring your own water • Notify the site manager or program director of all injuries while working at a disaster site. • Remain flexible • If you have a cell phone, keep with you at all times • Do not bring valuables with you, and label all personal equipment brought to the site.
Don’t:
• Partake of alcohol or drugs before or during your work • Use inappropriate language or tell inappropriate jokes • Don’t accept donations from individuals, please ask them to donate to the agency you are working with at the time or their favorite charity and send the money to them directly • Bring pets • Work to the point of exhaustion. Know your limitations.
Remember, helping the disaster victims is our primary focus and objective.

Community Foundation of Central Georgia Joins Joins Hands With Rebuilding Together

The Community Foundation of Central Georgia will work on Tuesday, July 22nd, from 8:30am-3:00pm to rebuild part of a home devastated by one of the tornadoes in May. The project will include rebuilding a porch and repairing an inside room damaged by a fallen tree. Lunch will be provided. For more information, please call Volunteer Macon at 478-742-6677.

Disaster Assistance is available NOW through FEMA!

Residents of Bibb County who suffered uninsured or under-insured losses will receive assistance from specialists skilled in many disaster-related subjects. If you would like to be considered for FEMA assistance, you must register by calling the toll free number, or register online within sixty days of the county being declared a federal disaster area. Bibb County's declaration date was Friday, May 23rd.

Call 1-800-621-FEMA(3362). If you are speech or hearing impaired, call TTY 1-800-462-7585. The toll free numbers are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm. Please have the following information available when you call:

A phone number where you can be reached

Social Security number

Current mailing address

Address of damaged property

Brief description of damages

Insurance Information (if you have insurance)

Disaster Case Managers Needed
Volunteers are needed to serve as Disaster Case Managers in Macon. This will require a committment of atleast 4 hours per week for the next 3 months. Training is required. The training course teaches volunteers how to identify and address unmet needs of all survivors, particularly people who were vulnerable before a disaster, and how to provide a larger vision of life that includes emotional and spiritual care as well as physical rebuilding to assist in long-term recovery of those in need.
